Tense Log: Make great sites, easier.
Tense Log is a web log and content management system that’s highly customizable and easy to use. Whether you want to create a personal blog, a professional site for your business, a calendar of events, or anything else you can think of, Tense Log makes it easier.
At Tense Forms, we created Tense Log to manage almost all of our web sites, including our calendar, reviews, the Muted Tones site, the Notes and Scratches site , Andy Wagner’s site, and even the Tense Code site you’re looking at now!
Tense Log allows everyone to share in the work. Any number of people can collaborate on a site to edit content, or upload images and other files. If you’re working with a designer they can work independently using the template system. There’s no need to worry about bugging them with every update or whether they inserted the latest copy, because your content is all inserted automatically by Tense Log.
Features
This certainly isn’t a complete list, but here are some of the highlights.
Drafts are saved as you type, so if you lose your connection, the power goes out, or you just accidentally close the page, everything will be there when you return. “Smart HTML” automatically formats your post for you. Inserting a link, image, or other HTML is just a couple of clicks away. You can quickly upload images with each entry, including thumbnail images automatically generated at any size, and elegant full-size popups. Entries can be instantly previewed and validated, while you edit, without losing your place.
You can allow others to comment on your entries, complete with a live preview. Comment settings can be changed for each entry or for an entire log. A thorough spam prevention system keeps out the bad stuff without a lot of hassle.
RSS feeds are automatically created for your categories and comments, so anyone can subscribe and get instant updates. You can fully customize your feeds with the template system. A sample podcast template is included too.
When you’re ready for the next step, you can fully customize your site with an easy, flexible template system. Choose from a variety of included templates or create your own with XML-style tags. A powerful plug-in system even allows you to create new template tags if you need to insert custom PHP. You can also add custom fields for your entries. If you’d like a “Currently Listening To” field for your entries, no problem! Upload files easily, without the need for an FTP application. If you have Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you can even use the Tense Log Uploader widget… Just select a folder and drop in a file!
You can also create a calendar on your site by setting end times for events. You can decide if you’d like to show the earliest events first, hide past events, divide categories by months, and more.
We haven’t forgotten the details either. All your pages will have friendly addresses. Instead of long, confusing URLs like http://yoursite.com/page.php?user=mike&cat=5, your pages are mapped to virtual directories, for simple URLs like http://yoursite.com/mike/photos/. This helps visitors find their way around, and it’s great for search engine optimization, too!
